Today we will be taking a look at the Xiaodu S1 Smart Wireless Earbuds courtesy of Xiaodu. This is an interesting set of earbuds that features 13mm drivers, a minimalist design approach, USB type C charging, Bluetooth 5.0, Voice note functionality, an IPX4 splash proof rating, and there’s even an app available for iOS and Android. Xiaodu touts the physical design of the S1 earbuds to be a great fit for most ear shapes as well as having water splash resistance which is handy for when you’re working out or if you get caught in the rain.. In my testing, I found the earbuds to fit relatively well, and I didn’t have any issues moving around the office or going about my day with them in. The buds didn’t fall out of my ears for a good while, maybe 2ish hours until I had to push them back in. The big question with most earbuds after the fit and finish is what they sound like both in terms of audio playback and the microphone capture. After testing these earbuds out with a bunch of streams, videos, and music, I think the audio playback quality is great for a pair of earbuds in this sub $50 budget price range. The microphone wasn’t too bad, there weren’t issues with anyone hearing me on my test calls which is good, and what I would expect for earbuds in this price category. The battery for the S1 earbuds is rated for about 4 hours of continuous playback. There will be some variability here based on volume and battery wear over time. I was able to get roughly 3 to 3.5hrs for video and music playback. The case itself also functions as a recharging battery bank which can provide up to an additional 16 hours of playback time. While these Bluetooth headphones will definitely connect to your phone by Bluetooth, Xiaodu offers an app for enhanced features. Within the app you can see individual volume levels for each earbud as well as reassign the button presses for general use while your phone is locked. This is actually a very cool setting that I wish more wireless earbuds had. In the app we can create voice notes which then can be copied to your clipboard for pasting the transcribed text into a document or email. The app also keeps track of your serial number and has built-in troubleshooting steps if you run into trouble. Overall, a solid budget pick for earbuds.
