Today we’re taking a look at the Poetic Guardian Case for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. This case consists of two interlocking pieces. These interlocking cases are generally considered to be very strong since they are interlocked all along the perimeter of the case. In terms of the back side, you have the main case body, interestingly enough, the Guardian case features a clear backside. The frame around this clear backing material and the backing material itself makes for a strong case body which is neat. On the front side of the Guardian, we have two included frame options for the screen. We can either choose the frame with a built in screen protector or the frame without a built in screen protector. I’m a fan of cases with screen protectors, usually you save some money and it looks like the screen protector actually belongs there. If you aren’t into screen protectors or you want to supply your own, you do have the open frame option as well. What makes this case unique is really the backing of the main case body, it’s clear, you can actually see the color of your smartphone. I like this, I always joke with my friends when my phones are ready for retirement that I don’t even remember what color they were but it’s true, most protective cases just totally hide the color. Even though the back side of the case is a clear plastic material, it is actually relatively thick, thicker than the screen protector by a fair bit. When I tried flexing the back side there was a little bit of flex but not much more than any other solid main case body type of case. As you’ve seen, whether you go for the frame with the screen protector or not, both frames interlock with the main case body so it’s very unlikely this case will ever split apart on impact which is good. The Guardian case also features raised bezels at the top and the bottom of the case, which looks like 1 to 2 mm by eyeballing it. This is good because it means when the phone falls on a flat surface like a floor or a desk, the screen isn’t going to be the first or main part of the phone making initial contact. That means the chances of the screen cracking when you drop the phone are definitely reduced. There’s some extra reinforced material around each of the corners which is absolutely going to help absorb fall damage, I like seeing this on the more protective side of cases. As for the camera protection, there is a bezel or cutout section here too. It’s going to give us some extra clearance to keep the lenses of the camera from contacting flat surfaces when you drop the phone and it lands on its back side. As for the feeling of the phone in your hands, I think it’s good, the sides are smooth but not slippery. There’s no textured area on the back since it’s basically a thicker type of plastic shield. Because of that, there’s obviously no kickstand in this case. The cutouts for the mic and speakers were a good size, no issues there. Ejecting and reinserting the S-pen was easy, the opening is big enough to not interfere and it looks like it’s still well supported in this section to be a stronger part of the case. I tested plugging in and removing the USB-C cable a bit, the flap is thick but moves easily. As for the wireless Qi charging, no issues there, I got the phone to charge upright and on its side. To sum it up, l think the Guardian case is a great case choice if you’re the kind of person that wants to show off your special edition color. I kid but really, it’s a stronger interlocking two piece case that lets you enjoy a little bit more of your phone. I do think the Guardian case is probably a little less strong than the Poetic Spartan or Revolution but those cases are for people that want a high amount of protection and don’t mind that they won’t see the actual phone body ever again. So if you’re into seeing your phone but you still want a decently strong case, I think the Poetic Guardian is probably the option for you.
