Today we’re taking a look at the Poetic Guardian case for the Pixel 6a. With the recent price cuts in the Pixel 6A making it a super good deal, I had reached out to Poetic to get a few cases to review for the pixel 6a. The case I’m looking at today is the Guardian case, this is a two layer interlocking type case. There’s two frame options included for the screen side of the phone, you can either choose a frame with a built in screen protector or a frame without a built in screen protector. I like that Poetic included both frame options, you can test them both out to see which one you like more. As you can see, the Guardian case is a bit different than most cases in that the back side of the case is actually clear, so you can see your phone color while still getting the benefits of having a more protective case. I like these interlocking cases, the frame and main case body forms a strong connection which leads to an overall great case that is able to absorb fall damage.
I’ll start with assembling the case with the built in screen protector frame. Installing these types of cases is fairly easy, you always want to make sure to clean off your phone screen before starting though. Poetic includes cleaning materials which is very cool. Once your screen is clean, you can peel off the inner protective plastic layer then remove the fingerprint id protection sticker and get the frame fitted on to your phone. Once the phone is in the frame, you can install this into the main case body. Protip, I always start the install at the top of the phone then flip it over to finish the install towards the bottom. The screen protector frame fits perfectly together with the main case body. The screen protector element feels nice and smooth, how I would expect for a good quality screen protector. There’s no gaps or anything and the fingerprint sensor actually worked right off the bat without me needing to rescan my fingerprint, that is very slick. In terms of my preferences, I like this built-in screen protector. It looks good, fits perfectly, and no issues with the fingerprint sensor. Whether you choose the built in screen protector frame or the open frame, the case will still lift the phone up about 2 millimeters off of a flat surface. This is a crucial case design feature. It means that when your phone falls flat on the ground, the screen won’t touch the floor for example. The uneven impact forces will get distributed across the case body which should help prevent that spider web cracking that we are all afraid of. In looking at the open frame option, it’s very similar just without the screen protector. Lots of people don’t like screen protectors at all so this option lets you enjoy the protective benefits of the Guardian case but you retain that glass screen feeling when you’re swiping. Once the frame is installed, we can flip the phone upside down and get the phone installed into the main case body. The Guardian case features decently sized top, bottom, and side wall thicknesses. The case walls are firm but still soft enough to move around so they should absorb impact forces well. In terms of the corner protection on this case, you have reinforced corners with extra material to help cushion those terrifying corner drops. Few things are as scary as dropping a phone on concrete or tile.
The feel of the case is good in my opinion. It’s generally smooth but not slippery and it’s well built. The main attraction to this case is the polycarbonate backing which allows you to actually see the phone’s color. This is a cool feature, by the time I end up retiring my smartphones, I always end up forgetting what color they even were. I like that you can get the ability to see the backside of the phone but you don’t have to compromise on overall case strength. As far as the microphone and speaker cutouts go, no sound issues so that’s good. The USB-C protection flap looks like it would hold up well, it was easy to pop out and charge the phone. The camera protection for the Pixel 6a phones tends to be simply a rectangular cutout because that matches the camera shape. There’s a few millimeters of clearance in between the camera lenses and a flat surface when installed into this case, that is good to see. I think the camera lens should be well protected here.
Overall, I really like the Poetic Guardian case for the Pixel 6A. This is a solid choice if you’re looking for good protection at a fair price and you actually want to see the color of the phone you ordered! Poetic including both frame options and even some screen cleaning materials is also just awesome. I would definitely consider Poetic cases for your smartphone.
