Today we’re taking a look at two poetic cases for the Google Pixel 8 courtesy of Poetic. They had sent these over for review for the Pixel 8 Launch and they seemed like interesting slimmer but still protective case options. The Neon cases are dual layer cases but they don’t enclose your phone which helps them retain a slightly slimmer profile. Poetic does have two versions which I have here today, the standard neon case and the mag safe edition. Both versions of the case have this rigid outer shell which helps give the case its form and combining it with the softer TPU inner layer, these grip on to the Pixel 8 very well. I like this two layer approach, the inner TPU layer functions like a thick sleeve basically to keep the Pixel phone body safe from impact forces and the outer layer is decently thick and rigid complimenting the inner layer. Using a combination of pieces that fit or lock into place as well as friction, the case install looks good and was relatively easy. We end up with a decent amount of material on the sides, top, and bottom, as well as the corners for absorbing and redistributing impact forces which should hopefully save your Pixel from sustaining damage. The neon cases aren’t built to include a screen protector but if you really wanted to level up the protection, you could buy either a plastic or tempered glass screen protector. Even if you choose not to go with a screen protector though, the neon cases create a bezel on the screen side of the case which extends out past the glass. This means that in common flat surface drop scenarios, your glass won’t end up touching the impact surface. Kitchen floors, basements, tile floors at work or even outside on the sidewalk. Like I said, you want your case to do the heaving lifting work in terms of being the initial piece of your phone to make impact and then absorbing and redistributing those impact forces. This bezel is about 1-2mm here which is a good compromise on protection and a lighter overall smartphone experience. Flipping the case around, we have the camera bump cutout. In order to protect the Pixel 8’s camera bump, the case is slightly built up on the backside and there is a small bezel here as well for added strength in order to make sure that the camera bump can’t impact first when you drop your phone on a flat surface. Both cases had no issues in terms of wireless qi charging, the MagSafe version obviously supports MagSafe accessories, things like magnetic rings and car mounts are super handy. The magnetic ring built into the case also functions as a kickstand which is awesome for watching videos while you’re moving around at home or in the office. The case feel is good in my opinion and I like the overall protection that the neon offers. I think the Neon case paired with a tempered glass screen protector could give some of the bigger and bulkier cases some serious competition. If you like the style of the Neon case and the slimmer case experience, I would definitely recommend the Poetic Neon for your Google Pixel 8. Until next time, stay charged up.
