The Pixel 6a is the 6th iteration of Google’s budget focused Smartphone offerings. The P6a was released on May 11th, 2022 as a competitive cheaper option for Android smartphone users. With an original MSRP of $449, the P6a came with most of the Pixel goodness but competed better against other Android Smartphone brands like Motorola. Thanks for joining me today for a quick look at unboxing the new Pixel 6A. I was excited to take a look at this phone because it’s my very first Pixel phone and Google product. I’m replacing my older LG G8 with this Pixel 6a since the LG series of phones are being eliminated from LGs product lines. With no software updates coming, the promise of a longer life on the Pixel 6a is interesting to me. The Pixel 6a is weighing in at 178g and being about 6inches tall, 2.8inches wide and .35 inches thick or 8.9mm thick. The pixel 6a is coming with 6gb of memory, the Google Tensor CPU, and 3 cameras. There are two rear-facing cameras, a primary 12.2mp and a wide angle 12mp. There’s also an 8mp front facing selfie camera. In terms of video capability, you can record up to 4k30fps with tons of features such as stabilization. Slowmo, time lapse, and many more. Video recording is available in either AVC or H.264 or HEVC also called H.265. This time around the fingerprint sensor should function a bit better than the pixel 6 and pro sensor did at launch and maybe still. The Pixel 6a of course utilizes USB-C connection with support for WiFi 6 and dual sims. We’re getting 5 years of support on the P6a which is awesome to see, hopefully with custom ROMs we can keep using these much longer. At first glance I like the slimmer profile, my S22 Ultra is massive, especially with the case installed. The P6a featured the same processor as the standard Pixel 6, the Google Tensor which is Google’s first custom designed SoC. This model enjoys 6GB of system memory and only comes in one storage configuration which is 128GB. The screen equipped is a 6.1 inch OLED with a 1080×2400 resolution screen resulting in about 429ppi. We don’t have MicroSD support but we do have Nano-SIM and eSIM support. The main cameras on the P6a consist of a main 12.2mp wide, a 12mp ultrawide, and an 8mp selfie cam. The P6a features IP67 water resistance which is handy. As for battery capacity, there’s a 4410mAH battery that can be recharged by the up to 18w max USB-C connection. Unfortunately no wireless charging this time around on the P6a. Overall, the P6a has been pretty fast for app, general movement, and updates. I’m looking forward to making more content on the processing power, battery life, the cameras, both photo and video, and my overall impressions after living with the phone for a few weeks so stay tuned.
