Ok, just got this marvel of modern technology home, time to take a look and set this up. I was super excited for the iPhone 15 launch, I knew I wanted to test one out so after a bit of research, I landed on the iPhone 15 pro max. I know I know, it’s a super expensive top of the line phone and I never really used iPhones much before this. The feature set really sold me and I’m interested in learning more about the cult that is apple. Obviously the whole entire world is glad we now have USB-C on iPhones. I never really understood why anyone would tolerate a proprietary data connection or cable, I dunno but the included USB-C braided cable is nice. Going through the setup seems pretty east, country selection US, the appearance menu, the default looks fine to me at least on the pro max model, since I’ve never had an iPhone here I guess I’m setting this up without another device..hmm yea, next we need to choose out wireless network, hopefully you broadcast a goofy funny SSID like I do, seems like even though I don’t have any carrier service there’s some kind of registration the phone is doing, not really sure what its activating there, iCloud maybe? Looks like there’s some kind of iOS update right out of the box which yea, I suppose I’ll take that. This is an insane terms of service, hoping I’m not abducted for a human centipad in the middle of the night… Yeah, download time was ok I guess, a few minutes on my 300 by 300 connection. Just kind of wanted to check out the physical size and kinda compare the cameras and the layout to my older S22 Ultra while this finishes. Annnd it’s gone… this update took what seemed like forever to apply and the progress bar sort of reminded me of the old school windows XP progress bars, instead of getting to 99% and staying there forever it seemed like the first 5% of the update took 99% of the total time and the last 99% of the update took negative 6 seconds, kinda interesting but long as I have the latest production OS and updates guess I’m good. Guess I need to start over sorta… appearance, quick start, sign into iCloud, blah blah, apple spying, set up for myself, no face id just yet, i liked that i set a 6 digit passcode and the phone actually told me this is a weak code and can be guessed easily, that’s cool. Some more terms of service, human centipad stuffs, and more setup screens. Seems like this setup process wasn’t too bad to be honest but I didn’t even really have any data to sync down, and it still took like 13 or 14 minutes. I guess that’s probably normal with a system update included though. I’m really looking forward to testing this out and I really, really want to see how the camera compares to my S23 Ultra. Just guessing based on what I read, by default, the out of the box quality is probably going to be better with all settings set to auto on the iPhone versus all settings set to auto on my s23 Ultra. Since this is my first iPhone, I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for iOS features and app recommendations. I kinda feel like I’m in a video game and I was dropped on a new planet, gotta relearn how to do everything.
