So as luck would have it, we were blessed with a new Samsung Smartphone in 2025, nobody saw this one coming and boy was this an incremental upgrade we can all get behind. Amirite guys? Yea, the Samsung releases come annually and they are really iterative builds on the last model. Everyone knows that if you have last year’s phone, you don’t need to upgrade unless you damaged your phone or managed to destroy the battery. People always ask me if upgrading is worth it and honestly, the answer is always no unless you need an upgrade or you just really like new hardware and you want to tell your friends about the AI feature set. Nothing wrong with buying tech toys, don’t get me wrong, they are fun, but if you have an S24 Ultra or even an S23 Ultra, I’m not sure the S25 Ultra is for you. I do still have my S22 Ultra and to be honest, the S25 Ultra feels like a decent upgrade of that paged phone. That begs the question though, should you buy a new S25 Ultra or head over to Swappa and buy a pristine used S24 Ultra for a huge discount? That’s really up to you at the end of the day, I can see an argument either way. As for the S25 Ultra spec upgrades, we’re getting a better ultrawide camera this time around, 50 megapixel versus 12 megapixel and of course, the promise of better camera software aided by magical AI features. Samsung claims we’ll get just a little bit more out of that same 5,000mAH battery they never ever want to innovate or upgrade due to the gains to be had with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for the phone. The CPU does appear to be a sizable upgrade, the cores all reach higher frequencies and the power usage didn’t rise much. The S25 Ultra got a little thinner at 8.2mm versus 8.6 and dropped down from 233 grams to 218 grams. If there was anything I didn’t like about the S24 Ultra, it was that 15 grams. The main display is technically larger at 6.9 inches versus 6.8 inches while maintaining the same brightness, that is actually a nice upgrade. The S25 Ultra is using Corning Gorilla Glass Armor 2, I haven’t cracked a screen in a long time, I’m not sure why the change here to be honest. I haven’t tested the camera difference at all yet but from what I read, there is something to be had here which is kind of exciting. I definitely will be testing the CPU and GPU performance in some benchmarking applications and I want to test out those cameras too. If you’re on an older phone, S22 Ultra era or older, this is a solid upgrade if you want to buy a new smartphone. If you don’t want to spend the cash or don’t have any good trade in deals available, you can definitely score some good condition S24 Ultras or even S23 Ultras from marketplaces like Swappa and others. Until we meet again, stay charged up!
